Biao Chen received his M.S. in statistics and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 1998 and 1999 respectively. He was a postdoctoral associate at Cornell University from 1999 to 2000. He joined Syracuse University in 2000 where he is currently the John E. and Patricia A. Breyer Professor in Electrical Engineering. He is the recipient of an NSF CAREER award. He is an IEEE Fellow and has held editorial positions at various IEEE journals.
His research interest lies in statistical inference and learning with applications to decentralized systems and in characterizing the performance of multi-user communication networks. His most recent research efforts focus on the theory and design of wireless systems that operate under severe constraints, including networks that involve airborne platforms or networks with an extremely crowded spectrum.
